As of press time, the following universities have signed an agreement with the Supreme Court (SC) of the Philippines to serve as testing venues for the Bar Exams 2020-2021, which will be held on all Sundays of November 2021:
- Ateneo de Manila University
- Ateneo de Zamboanga University
- Manila Adventist College
- Saint Louis College – La Union
- Saint Louis University – Baguio City
- Saint Mary’s University
- Cagayan State University
- De La Salle Lipa
- University of Nueva Caceres
- University of Cebu – Banilad
- Mindanao State University – Iligan
- Mindanao State University – General Santos City
- Ateneo de Davao University
- Xavier University – Cagayan de Oro
This will be the first time that the Bar Exams will be held in multiple venues outside of Metro Manila. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Santo Tomas was the only site for all bar exam takers from all over the Philippines.
The SC said it is expected to conclude more testing venue agreements with other local universities. Bar Chairperson Marvic Leonen said testing venues for the Bar Exams could reach up to 2 universities.
The Manila-centric Bar Exams of the past have been a source of criticism for so long. This is because apart from the mental stress caused by reviewing for the exam itself, bar exam takers coming from outside Metro Manila would also need to endure additional financial and logical challenges as they move to Manila and leave their families behind just to take the Bar.
